You may be a little bit amazed or wowed, to know that the most studied and most important aspect of Internet marketing started some where, well I do put this article together to help newbies and pros in the system, understand how SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Came a long way to be.

Morever, when we do talk about the history of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and how it all started, documentaries has it that it all started in the early 1990’s, when search engines began their early stages of their development to help organize and analyze web sites listed on the internet.

However, we may ask which search engine was the first to be invented, well some may think its one of the most popular search engines, like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc, but they were not the first.

The first search engine to be invented was called "Archie", Archie was the first search engine that was invented. It started its operations on September 10, 1990.

Archie, was as primitive as man to be compared to the search engines we do have today, Archie was a tool for indexing and storing of FTP archives, allowing people to find specific data and files, note, it was not on the internet, because internet was first launched in in the year1991.

Because Archie search engine was invented to compile stored archive files and data, it now got its name from the word Archive.

In the year1997, the words “search engine optimization” (SEO) were first used by John Audette and Bruce Clay, and it later became a widely used term.

If am to say that, search engines will continue to shape SEO practices, am not wrong at that point, because to check the vast development that has taken place in search engines, right from the Archie era to the Google era we are today, and its still developing with series of changes yearly, means search engines will continue to be the brain of SEO practices, as long as internet marketing is concerned.

In the year 2009, Microsoft Corporation gathered all its informations that it had learned from its own previous search engines which are,

1. MSN Search,
2. live Search,
3. Windows live Search.
and put it all into what they now call "Bing" which is one among the top three search engines in the internet.

Later the next year, another gaint Yahoo! merged with Microsoft Corporation and began using the Bing search engine technology as well.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) marketing has changed a lot over the past few years since its origin, and its been predicted that it will continue to change in the nearest future.

In its simple beginning, SEO marketing strategy was less or not recommended as a marketing strategy and more likely a loophole in marketing strategies.

As time continued, Google Incorporated began building new algorithms that thoroughly analyzed keywords on the internet and how they’re been used.

Then later on, SEO became a full-fledged marketing strategy and a full-time career and course in the internet.

In the year 1998, Google Inc later entered the search engine arena and soon took the stage in search engine market shares, becoming the industry leader in search queries.

Google Inc later on, posted another batch or string of update highlights, covering over 50 changes, which includes,

1. confirmation of Panda 3.4,
2. changes to anchor-text "scoring",
3. updates to image search,
4. changes to how queries with local intent are interpreted.

Google Inc, Instant real-time-search, was introduced in late 2010 just to make search results more timely and relevant. Historically websites administrators have spent months and years optimizing a website to increase search engines rankings.

With the unending growth in popularity of social media sites and blogs and also leading search engines do make changes to their algorithms, to allow fresh contents to rank quickly within the search engine result page (SERP).

Google Inc, also later on released a series of updates, which mostly targeted at low-quality links, including,
1.Reciprocal links,
2. Link farms, and
3. paid links.
All the updates and changes was to make search engines an internet users friendly.

Website owners, bloggers and the general internet users, do recognized the value of a high ranking and visibility in the search engine results page (SERP).

As more people do browse web pages online, they needed a centralized place to “search” for queries and get the needed answer.

As the need for a centralized place for searching and browsing web contents grew higher, search engines now came in and a new form of marketing was born, called SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

To successfully optimize a website, professional marketers developed a lot of valuable and shareable contents, that is focused toward users.

Contents that was shared throughout the internet and social media, do create valuable back links and engagement that do build websites authority in the search engines rankings.

These trends lead to the dawn of the information era, personalized, and more engaging web we know today.

SEO has become a big and fast growing business, as companies and websites search for an edge to get their sites listed higher in the search engines ranking table.

Although considering the fact that, the search algorithms do change so often, it’s not really important for websites, to try and keep up with every little change.

For the past 2 decades now (20 years), online searching has grown rapidly, first with the introduction of the World Wide Web (www) back in 1991, and then with the unending development of search engines, web crawlers and page rankings.

Since then until now, search engines have constantly evolved, on regular basis as new standards were set by the rapidly growing web wide world.
